Red-Eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans): “The classic pet turtle, with a bright red stripe behind each eye.” Native to the south-central US, red-eared sliders bask on logs and slide off into the water at the first sign of danger. They can live 20 to 40+ years and have become invasive around the world from released pets, so always buy captive-bred and never release a pet turtle. A TurtleFluent kids tee with realistic turtle art on the front and the TurtleFluent.com mark on the back.
