Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle (Lepidochelys kempii): “The smallest, rarest sea turtle.” With a round, gray-olive shell only about 2 feet long, the Kemp’s ridley is the smallest sea turtle in the world. It nests mainly on beaches in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and South Texas, where females come ashore together in a famous mass daytime nesting called the “arribada.” It feeds mostly on crabs in shallow coastal waters.
